Mushfiqur Rahim, the former captain of Bangladesh, stated on Wednesday, August 20, that while the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s new ‘Share and Care’ initiative is a good start, it won’t matter until it is implemented.
Aminul Islam, the president of BCB, has started a campaign to improve internal ties, promote open and honest communication, and have a group discussion about the principles that the board and team uphold.
To reporters, Mushfiqur responded, “It’s a good initiative,” in response to the board’s decision. “Until these are implemented, such meetings won’t be fruitful.”
Mushfiqur was speaking during the National Paralympics Committee of Bangladesh’s “Celebrating Youth Festival: Physically Challenged Cricket Trial and Selection Camp 2025” held indoors at Bashundhara Sports City. The seasoned batsman-wicketkeeper emphasised the value of improving prospects for the upcoming generation of cricket players.
Since our careers are coming to a close, we want to establish a setting where the future generation can play frequently everywhere. “We wish to offer the resources and chances for appropriate practice,” he stated. “Bangladesh lags well behind the progress made in world cricket. Bangladesh cricket may advance significantly further if we can offer such assistance.”
Additionally, Mushfiqur reaffirmed his desire to participate in the forthcoming National Cricket League (NCL). “I will play in the NCL if I am selected by a team. I’m emotionally and physically prepared. Let’s see what occurs now,” he remarked.
The former skipper commended Bashundhara Sports City’s top-notch facilities and pointed out that local players would gain from staging international cricket there. Five centre wickets, twelve turf fields, seven-lane indoor astro-turfs, cutting-edge bowling machines, video analysis systems, and contemporary fitness facilities like a gym, pool, and ice baths are all currently part of the Bashundhara Cricket Network.
“If it becomes an international venue, our cricketers will be able to come here and practise with top-level facilities,” Mushfiqur stated, adding that the facilities at Bashundhara need to serve as a warning to cricket authorities.
“We should all feel humiliated after seeing this. Since no other national team in Bangladesh receives this kind of infrastructure, a group like this—forget cricket. And in actuality, this is quite fundamental. Because it becomes challenging to develop players if opportunities and adequate facilities cannot be guaranteed,” he stated.
He asked lawmakers and the cricket board to be inspired by the project. “There is nothing more to say than regret if our policymakers are not inspired by these facilities. But this is undoubtedly something to be inspired by. A large group like them (Bashundhara) has taken the initiative, even though it’s a little late. “I hope that many cricket players will gain from this, as well as many people who will be inspired by it,” Mushfiqur stated.
