The current director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and seasoned sports organiser Mahbub Anam is not expected to run in the October board elections.
Given that Mahbub Anam has been a member of the board for more than 20 years—he has served in every administration since 2001—the development is seen as the most significant turn of events in the run-up to the elections. It was generally assumed that he would run for president this time.
However, Mahbub Anam has recently been the subject of media attention as election dates get near, and sources speculate that the pressure may have played a role in his decision to withdraw from the contest. Reports surfaced that painted him in a negative light and implied corruption.
Mahbub Anam had previously played cricket for Mohammedan Sporting Club.
When questioned about his resignation on Wednesday, August 20, Mahbub told Cricbuzz, “I have told you earlier that I won’t take part in election unless the environment is good and you know what is happening.” “What is happening I don’t think it will end anywhere.”
Mahbub Anam, who just took over as chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League Governing Council from former BCB president Faruque Ahmed, is currently in charge of the BCB’s Grounds Committee.
After retiring from sports, Mahbub Anam transitioned into cricket administration, joining the sports Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) in 1986. He was chosen to the Executive Committee of the then-Bangladesh Cricket Control Board (BCCB) in 2001, marking his first significant position in national cricket management.
With the exception of a brief time during a change of administration when cricket was administered by several advisory bodies, he has remained a mainstay of the BCB establishment ever since.
