Pace leader Jasprit Bumrah has the support of former BCCI chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma, who has emphasised that players should heed the advise of their physiotherapists since they are the greatest arbiters of workload management. Mohammed Siraj led the pace attack in the remaining two Test matches during the England trip, whereas Bumrah only played in three. This led to criticism. Sharma, a former fast bowler himself, compared the circumstance to a patient doing as instructed by a physician.
“I must take antibiotics as directed by the medical staff and if the doctor tells me I must. Sharma was cited by NDTV Sports as saying, “I think we should listen to our physios if they are telling a player to manage workload because they are the better judges.”
Chetan Sharma predicts that India will win the Asia Cup.
Prior to becoming chairman of selectors, Sharma, who formed a partnership with Kapil Dev for almost five years and went on to take over 125 wickets in Tests and ODIs, added that he was confident the team would win the Asia Cup, which starts in the United Arab Emirates next month, based on its performance in the England Test series.
“I am confident that the best candidate for the nation will be chosen. And I’m quite proud of the way India performed in England given the current state of cricket. And since we will be playing the T20 World Cup in India in 2026, I am quite certain that we will win the Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format. Playing in your own backyard at the World Cup is a huge deal. The outcomes will likewise be favourable if the intention is correct,” Sharma stated.
India ought to select the top team: Chetan Sharma
In response to a question concerning Indian Test captain Shubman Gill’s selection in Suryakumar Yadav’s Asia Cup 2025 roster, Sharma said that India need to send its strongest 15-man squad to the continental competition.
“Look, what the selectors see is up to them. Since I am no longer the chairman (of selectors), my opinion is irrelevant; I will simply state that the best team should be chosen. Our cricket players are so good that they are not limited to the top 15, but even if the top 30 are chosen, they are all excellent. “Very pleased with them,” Sharma continued.
