Throughout the series, Dewald Brevis was South Africa’s standout performance. The youthful batter scored a scorching half-century on Saturday after smashing a record-breaking century in the second Twenty20 International. Brevis scored 180 runs at an incredible strike rate of 204.55, finishing as the series’ top scorer.
After the Proteas lost the third Twenty20 International match against Australia at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Saturday, August 16, to lose the three-match series 1-2, South Africa’s head coach Shukri Conrad asked his players to express themselves a little more.
The South African batsmen were encouraged by Conrad to emulate Brevis’ aggressive batting style.
Additionally, he anticipated that as Brevis obtains more international cricket experience, he won’t soften his flashy batting approach.
“I believe we might be overly modest at times. We don’t demonstrate our abilities to the world enough. similar to Brevis. I hope he keeps playing like a 22-year-old, even if it’s apparent that he will become older. Guys occasionally have a tendency to modify their style of play as they gain expertise. Following the third Twenty20 International, India Today reported that Conrad said, “He’s a breath of fresh air.”
“Australian play has nothing to do with this. They have a template, and occasionally it looks fantastic and is box office success. Additionally, you can occasionally put them in difficulties, as we did in the first few games. However, they adhere to it,” he continued.
Markram, Rickelton, and Stubbs might have over-boxed themselves: Conrad
In his analysis of his players’ performances, Conrad pointed out that while hitters like Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs can attack the opposition bowlers, he thought they might have overcommitted. According to the Proteas coach, he wants the players to give it their all even if the results don’t go their way.
“How does that affect us? Guys like [Tristan] Stubbs, [Rickelton], and Aiden himself are capable of a great deal on the hitting front. But I think they may have put themselves in too much of a box. Although it’s a different format, Aiden demonstrated his true self at the Test final not so long ago. We’re probably just a few games away from reaching that level of brilliance. It will not necessarily lead to victory. However, I do want us to flaunt ourselves a little more. “I get to see a lot of it in Cape Town, where I live,” Conrad remarked.
