It was one of those occasions when we had clearly had a few drinks, and I believe you are aware that we had been asked to Yuvi’s (Yuvraj Singh) room. Upon entering, we saw a suite. It was enormous. It was the same size as my house here. Hastings remarked on LiSTNR Sport, “And I remember looking around, I just jeez there’s so many people in here.”
John Hastings, a former Australian cricket player, shared a humorous story about the 2011 World Cup, which India won after defeating Sri Lanka in the championship match. Hastings talked of going to a party with Indian veteran Yuvraj Singh and breaking a table by accident, which resulted in a period of total quiet. He did, however, disclose that he quickly went to reception and resolved the matter.
Throughout his career, the 39-year-old participated in 29 ODIs, a couple T20Is, and just one Test. Hastings acknowledged that everyone was in startled silence when he knocked a phone and laptop from a cliff.
“Why is this music playing? I perched on the edge of this while tinkering with the laptop to get part of my music on. A phone was resting on a ledge. I was sitting on a laptop when it suddenly fell to the ground, and I recall that everyone just stopped, stared, and fell silent—silent as a pin could drop,” he continued.
Hastings acknowledged that he made sure there were no problems after calmly reporting the phone damage to reception.
“What am I going to do here?” was my first thought. I’m a little child. The room belongs to Yuvraj Singh.
This place is packed with people. There are certainly Bollywood celebs all over the place, so I just told them to keep their cool and went to the phone, which was already hanging off the wall. I noticed that the wire was being torn from the wall. I decided to check to see if I had done this correctly. And at the end of the queue, nobody was there. I decided to answer the phone.
“Reception,” I responded, “yes.” John Hastings, I would want to confirm that Yuvraj Singh room has some damage. I’ll see to it that it is fixed. I’m in such and such a room. And everyone said, “Good job, buddy.” That’s amazing. Everyone simply continued to play and kick on,” Hastings remarked.
“I went down to reception to make sure I could make things right, but nobody ever said anything else.” Happy days, then. We had a great evening, and I didn’t have to pay for any damage,” he said.
