Maharashtra has selected 17 players for the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, including Prithvi Shaw. Shaw is expected to participate in this competition for the first time since moving to Maharashtra from Mumbai in July.
When Prithvi Shaw was removed from Mumbai’s 2024–25 Ranji Trophy roster for lack of discipline and poor fitness, he asked for a no-objection certificate.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 final was his most recent game for Mumbai.
The team, led by middle-order batsman Ankit Bawne, also includes Ruturaj Gaikwad. During IPL 2025, Gaikwad will be ready to participate in his maiden professional game following his elbow injury.
After Maharashta’s opening game, Gaikwad and wicketkeeper-batter Saurabh Nawale are reportedly leaving to join the West Zone team in Bengaluru for the forthcoming Duleep Trophy.
Mumbai captain Ayush Mhatre is named
Ayush Mhatre, who is eighteen, will be the leader of Mumbai. During their recent multi-format trip of England, Mhatre captained the India Under-19 team. Mhatre replaced Gaikwad in the Chennai Super Kings, and throughout his brief tenure, he displayed flashes of his skill. With 340 runs in four innings, he was also the top scorer in the red-ball matches against the England Lions.
Sarfaraz Khan and his younger brother Musheer are also part of Mumbai’s team. The latter missed the domestic season after suffering a fracture in the neck area in a traffic accident in September 2024. Since his recovery, the spin-bowling all-rounder has only played once, for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 matchup against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
