On Tuesday, August 12, at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin, South Africa’s seam-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch was given a penalty point for the farewell he offered Ben Dwarshuis during the second Twenty20 International match against Australia.
The terrible situation happened during the second innings’ seventeenth over. With the fifth ball of the over, Corbin Bosch defeated Dwarshuis. The former then pointed to the dugout, which was thought to provoke a combative reaction from the hitter.
In order to avoid a formal hearing, Bosch acknowledged the infraction and accepted the punishment imposed by match referee Andy Pycroft. On-field referees Phillip Gillespie and Shawn Craig made the first accusation, with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Donovan Koch supporting them.
The International Cricket Council concluded that Bosch had violated Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which forbids “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match.”
Corbin Bosch only received one demerit point because this was his first infraction in a 24-month period.
Corbin Bosch bowled a fantastic stint in the second Twenty20 International against Australia, despite being in the wrong on disciplinary grounds. The 30-year-old finished with stats of 3/20 in three overs after taking the wickets of Adam Zampa, Dwarshuis, and Mitchell Marsh. The third and final Twenty20 International will take place at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Saturday, August 16. South Africa won the match by 53 runs after bowling out Australia for 165 in 17.4 overs.
After being assigned to bat first, Dewald Brevis scored an undefeated 125 off 56 balls to assist South Africa reach 218/7 in their 20 overs earlier in the match, marking his first international century. In his outstanding innings, Brevis hit eight sixes and twelve fours.
