Due to their schedule, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes Sri Lanka has a higher chance of making it to the World Test Championship final in the 2025–2027 cycle. With a 1-0 victory over Bangladesh, the Lankans began their current WTC campaign on a high note.
Aakash Chopra believes Sri Lanka could overwhelm their opponents since they have two of their three away visits scheduled against Pakistan and the West Indies.
“Sri Lanka lies by flattering. They play South Africa, Bangladesh, and India in their home series. Due to their overseas visits to Pakistan, the West Indies, and New Zealand, they have a fantastic schedule. In a video posted on his YouTube account, Aakash Chopra said, “You should succeed in Pakistan and the West Indies.”
Additionally, Aakash Chopra predicted that Sri Lanka would pose a serious domestic threat to Bangladesh, South Africa, and India.
“They have South Africa, Bangladesh, and India at home, even if they struggle in the two away games in New Zealand. It’s really not an awful draw. In fact, Sri Lanka has a good chance. “I think Sri Lanka has a better chance of qualifying than South Africa,” Chopra said.
The cricketer-turned-commentator acknowledged Bangladesh’s home record but still gave them the worst scheduling prediction.
“You don’t reach at all, so I won’t even discuss Bangladesh. The list doesn’t even include you. When they play Bangladesh, especially when they are on tour, people start to focus on earning points. “Bangladesh definitely causes trouble for people back home,” he said.
When Aakash Chopra toured South Africa and Australia, he anticipated that they would thrash Bangladesh.
“They play South Africa, Australia, and Sri Lanka in their away series. Pakistan, the West Indies, and England will be their hosts. They can cause problems for Pakistan, England, and the West Indies. Sri Lanka, who have lost the series 1-0, may be their opponent. They will suffer greatly in South Africa and Australia. Chopra thought, “They might not even come close to qualifying again.”
In the 2023–25 edition, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had respective points percentages of 38.46% and 31.25%, placing them sixth and seventh. After defeating Australia in the final at Lord’s, the Proteas were declared the winners.
