Rohit Sharma targets 2027 ODI World Cup, trains with Abhishek Nayar

One of the most well-known and respected names in Indian and international cricket is Rohit Sharma. He is regarded as a master of big-match innings, an ODI legend, and the player with the third-highest amount of hundreds in the history of the format. In limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma has established himself as a symbol of leadership and consistency because to his outstanding achievements throughout the years.

The future of the ODI captaincy has come into focus after India’s recent triumph in England with the youthful Test team. There is conjecture that Rohit will remain the captain of the format he plays in the international arena during this transitional period, or that Test captain Shubman Gill will take over the role.

Rohit Sharma , who has been leading the team with distinction, now has to contend with a shifting environment where the players of the future are keen to assume leadership roles.

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket prior to the England series in order to concentrate solely on the ODI format following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. After that, he took a family vacation in England before coming back to Mumbai last week.

The top-order batter showed his dedication to staying competitive at the top level by starting training right away after his comeback. He posted an Instagram story on August 12 from a suburban gym where he was working out with his good friend and former BCCI assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Nayar has coached a number of elite players, including Rinku Singh, Dinesh Karthik, and KL Rahul.

Given that the 2027 ODI World Cup is still 26 months away, Rohit Sharma ongoing commitment to training indicates he is getting ready for the long haul. Before relinquishing the captaincy duties, some team management members feel he should have a final series, at least as captain, perhaps against Australia.

With 32 hundreds and a third-place finish on the all-time list, behind only Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma has been a formidable force in ODI cricket. In addition, he was named Player of the Match during India’s triumph over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final.

In his 273 ODI appearances to date, Rohit has scored 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76. Three double hundreds are on his record, and his best performance was an incredible 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata. Rohit’s will to stay at the top of ODI cricket is unwavering while the Indian cricketing board and the senior selection committee members consider their alternatives.
