Northern Superchargers have named Ben Stokes as their mentor for the rest of The Hundred Men’s 2025 campaign. He is presently recovering from a knock to his left shoulder sustained during the just finished England vs. India Test series.
Long before the tournament started in February, it was confirmed that Ben Stokes would not be participating in the 100-ball competition. Managing his workload before the Ashes Down Under later this year was the primary justification given.
Given that he suffered a shoulder injury during the red-ball series, the English red-ball captain would not have been able to participate in either scenario. With former English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff serving as the team’s head coach, the 34-year-old will become a member of the Superchargers’ backroom staff.
In the 2021 and 2024 editions of the prestigious English championship, Ben Stokes played for Northern Superchargers in two and three games, respectively. The star all-rounder may have played a few more games in 2024, but he missed all of the English summer last year due to a terrible hamstring tear sustained during one of the games. He was also unable to play in important Test series, where Ollie Pope commanded the team in his place.
The Superchargers have only played once thus far, but they defeated Welsh Fire at Headingley by eight wickets and eleven balls remaining to open the season on a victorious note. In addition to his undefeated 48-ball 67-run knock during the run-chase, Zak Crawley was named Player of the Match for the two catches he pouched.
With Ben Stokes’ all-around performance, England and India tie 2-2.
Ben Stokes had a respectable Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy recently, both as captain and as a player. He supported his pace-bowling unit on the pitch by bowling long stretches and saving his team’s bacon with the bat on several occasions. Over the course of his four games, Stokes amassed 304 runs in seven innings and claimed 17 wickets in eight innings. England defeated by six runs in the final match at The Oval, where Stokes was rested.
