In England, Pakistani batter Haider Ali is the subject of a criminal inquiry. It has now come to light that the athlete was taken into custody in relation to a sexual molestation case.
The player has been immediately suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in response to the development. Later, he was freed on bond.
Haider (24), who has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and thirty-five T20Is, was reportedly taken into custody by Greater Manchester police at Hove approximately three days ago (on August 3). On August 3, the right-hander was playing for the Pakistan Shaheens in a one-day match at Beckenheim.
According to the PCB, the Greater Manchester Police are presently conducting a criminal investigation. “The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England,” the Pakistan Cricket Board stated in a statement.
“The PCB has made sure Haider Ali has gotten the required legal assistance to defend his rights during this process, in accordance with its duty of care and obligation to guarantee the welfare and legal rights of all of its players.
“The PCB understands how important it is to give the inquiry time to complete and fully respects UK legal procedures and protocols. As a result, the PCB has made the decision to temporarily suspend Haider Ali, with immediate effect, while the inquiry is still ongoing,” the PCB stated.
