‘Sings, dances, mimics – he does it all’ – MS Dhoni on entertainer Virat Kohli

He also sings wonderfully. He sings well. He dances well. Mimicry is his forte. “He is very entertaining if he is in the mood,” remarked Dhoni.

‘Sings, dances, mimics – he does it all’ – MS Dhoni on entertainer Virat Kohli

At a recent function in Chennai, former Indian captain MS Dhoni offered some humorous observations regarding Virat Kohli. The 44-year-old claimed that Kohli has a talent for imitation, dancing, and singing and that, when in the mood, he enjoys entertaining people.

Together, Dhoni and Kohli represented India in all formats during their lengthy and fruitful on-field collaboration. They were frequently cited as having some of the smoothest chemistry in international cricket, particularly when sprinting between the wickets.

Under MS Dhoni leadership, Kohli made his debut for his country and subsequently took over as captain for all formats.

The pair were instrumental in some of India’s biggest cricketing victories, such as the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy victory in England and the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup victory at home.

“He sings beautifully, too. He can sing well. He can dance well. He can imitate well. Dhoni told presenter Bhavana Balakrishnan, “He is very, very entertaining when he is in the mood.”

Even though MS Dhoni and Kohli have a long-standing connection in international cricket and a well-known bond off the pitch, they have faced off in a number of fierce Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Under Rajat Patidar’s leadership, Kohli eventually won his first IPL victory with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 season, despite Dhoni having guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five victories.

Both legends last appeared on the pitch during the 2025 Indian Premier League season. MS Dhoni had a difficult season, amassing 196 runs at a strike rate of 135.17 and an average below 25. Notably, with just four victories in 14 games, CSK finished last in the points standings for the first time ever.

Kohli, on the other hand, had an outstanding season, scoring 657 runs in 15 games at a remarkable average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71. In the final, the 36-year-old was RCB’s best player, scoring 43 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) to help the team win its much anticipated first IPL championship.

Political difficulties caused the series to be cancelled, but Kohli was supposed to play in India’s tour to Bangladesh. The star batter’s future appearance for India in ODIs is therefore still up in the air.
