'Working to cement T20I spot' – Ryan Rickelton

Ryan Rickelton, a young cricket player from South Africa, has stated that he is eager to use his performances in the forthcoming three-match 20-over series against Australia to claim one of the starting spots in South Africa’s T20I setup. The aggressive opening batsman was also forthright when he acknowledged that he had yet to solidify his place in the T20I team.

The left-handed batsman would undoubtedly be eager to win over the think tank so that he might travel to India and Sri Lanka for the international competition in light of the T20 World Cup 2026. But he made it quite evident that he would not be modifying his combative behaviour with the willow. He revealed that his squad actually wanted him to play up front in that same way.

There won’t be any pressure on me to alter what I’ve been doing for the past two years, but I’m still working to establish myself in the T20I side. It’s merely a chance for me to, hopefully, secure the starting position for this South African team heading into the World Cup and beyond. According to ESPNcricinfo, Ryan Rickelton said, “I’m fairly comfortable with what’s required because the way the team is structured fits the mould of how they want me to play too.”

I’ll need a couple more sessions before I start: Ryan Rickelton

In terms of the practice sessions leading up to the T20Is, the southpaw also offered important insights on both his own and his teammates’ form. The Proteas batsman-wicketkeeper is also closely monitoring other team players as the series approaches. Before the assignment, he claimed that his colleagues were looking in good rhythm.

“I’m not really concerned, even if I haven’t been hitting the ball very well these past few days. We have already played a lot of cricket this year, and you just cannot simply give it up. I’ll need to attend a couple more sessions before I start. The men that have been playing are moving a lot better than some of the players who have taken a little break, he continued. “I’m watching the rest of the guys, and they’re really hitting the ball quite nicely.”

On Sunday, August 10, Australia and South Africa will play their maiden Twenty20 International. Ryan Rickelton and Lhuan-dre Pretorius are probably going to open the batting.
