Former South African cricket player AB de Villiers provided insight into Dewald Brevis’s potential as a player. In the 2025 World Championship of Legends, de Villiers recently guided the South African Champions to victory.
AB de Villiers, who spent 11 seasons as a renowned member of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, also expressed his desire for Brevis to have played for RCB rather than the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
“Dewald Brevis, who might emerge as the game’s next 360-degree player, is from South Africa, in my opinion. Yes, the number 17 is on his back. He plays cricket in a similar style. He still has a lot to learn and is highly aggressive. It’s unfortunate that he is playing for CSK rather than RCB,” de Villiers said in an interview with well-known YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra.
In August 2023, 22-year-old Brevis made his debut for South Africa on the international scene. To date, the gifted batting all-rounder has represented the country in two Test matches and seven Twenty20 Internationals. He has yet to make his debut in the 50-over format despite having participated in 25 List A games.
Brevis participated in the prestigious T20 competition for the third time in the IPL 2025. arriving as Gurjapneet Singh’s injured replacement for INR 2.2 crore. In an otherwise poor season for the five-time IPL champions, he scored 225 runs for CSK while striking at a scorching 180.
Brevis recently played for the Proteas in the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Nation Series. He struck at a respectable pace and crossed the 30-run threshold four times in the team’s six games (187.32).
Next up for him is the white-ball series against Australia, which will consist of three Twenty20 Internationals and an equal number of One-Day Internationals. On August 10, the series will kick off in Darwin’s Marrara Oval.
