"It’s not only the impact that he has for himself, but also makes the job easier for the batsmen to follow," he said.

Sanjay Bangar compares Yashasvi Jaiswal to Sehwag, says his starts lifted dressing room mood

After Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered a scorching century in India’s second innings of the fifth and final Test match at The Oval in London, former India all-rounder and batting coach Sanjay Bangar showered the southpaw with adulation. India set a target of 374 runs with the help of the Mumbai batsman, who hit 118 from 164 balls.

Bangar recalled how Virender Sehwag’s spectacular batting outburst at the top of the order would crush the opposition and boost morale in the Indian camp. When he is in full swing with the bat in hand, Jaiswal has a similar effect to the Indian dressing room and the batters to follow, according to the cricket player-turned-expert.

“I recall that the dressing room seemed different when Virender Sehwag gave those starts. The dressing room’s whole vibe shifted. Not only does he benefit himself, but he also makes it simpler for the batters to follow him. When he bats aggressively at the beginning, that is the worth of his contribution,” Bangar told ESPNcricinfo.

Bangar also praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for demonstrating maturity and taking a backseat during the first session on Day 3, when nightwatchman Akash Deep was at the top of his game. In a 107-run partnership with Deep for the third wicket, Jaiswal managed just 33 runs.

“When he bats in a slightly controlled manner, you could also see that he can he can bring the best out of a lower order batter, which he did with Akash Deep,” Bangar continued.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 411 runs from 10 innings at an average of 41.10 to end the five-match series.

In the first innings of the first Test and the second innings of the fifth Test, the 23-year-old hammered a century. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul helped India get off to a strong start at the top of the order. His second-innings century will be immortalised in Indian cricket legend if India wins the fifth Test and evens the series.
