Richa Ghosh is the only Indian on the ICC's shortlist of nine nominees for Player of the Tournament.

Richa Ghosh, an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, is the only one of the nine players nominated for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023’s “Player of the Tournament” award.

India was eliminated from the competition when they were unable to defeat Australia in the first semi-final on Thursday, February 23. The five-time winners were very nearly defeated by the Ladies in Blue in the quarterfinal game, but they ultimately fell short by five runs.

Richa Ghosh scored 136 runs in five innings at an average of 68 and a strike rate of 130.76, enough for second-most runs for India in the competition. Richa Ghosh performed admirably as a finisher throughout the competition. She made several important runs against Pakistan and the West Indies to assist India reach their goals in both contests.

In a defeat to England, the 19-year-old also struck a brilliant 34-ball 47*. In India’s third group game, the West Bengal-born batsman was equally outstanding behind the wickets, putting forth heroic attempts to get rid of England opener Danni Wyatt.

Three Australian players made the ICC’s list of players who have been shortlisted, making up the majority of the players. South Africa and England both contributed two players to the list, while West Indies and India each contributed one cricket player.

The three Australians who made the list were captain Meg Lanning (139 runs at an average of 69.50 through the tournament’s semi-final match), wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy (171 runs at an average of 57), and all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner (81 runs and nine wickets).
The two English players who made the list were all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt, who currently leads the competition with 216 runs at an average of 72, and spinner Sophie Ecclestone, who finished with 11 wickets and a fantastic economy rate of 4.15.

The two South Africans were opener Tazmin Brits and second-highest run-scorer for the Proteas Laura Wolvaardt, who was instrumental in getting her team to the final with her stellar batting and fielding abilities, and Wolvaardt.

On Friday, 24 February, in the semifinal match versus England, the British scored an incredible 68 runs off just 55 balls. She has 176 runs under her belt at an average of 44, making her the second-highest run scorer in the competition.

Hayley Matthews, the captain of the West Indies, was added to the list for her outstanding all-around performance, which included 130 runs scored and four wickets taken.
