Sri Lanka Cricket denies financial crisis reports

The governing cricketing council for the nation’s operations, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has denied reports of an operational financial crisis. The false allegations that have been making the rounds on various news and social media sites for the past few days or so have been totally debunked by the Sri Lankan board.

Notably, the untrue allegations went viral on television as Sri Lanka gets ready to co-host the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup with its neighbour, India. In addition to addressing the unfounded rumours, the SLC has now said that the organization’s financial operations are entirely solid and secure enough to be getting ready for the highly anticipated T20I tournament.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wants to make it clear that recent social media rumours that the organisation is experiencing a financial problem are wholly false and misleading.

An SLC media release dated Thursday, July 31 stated, “We confirm that Sri Lanka Cricket has adequate financial stability to oversee its operations and carry out its long-term strategic initiatives.”

SLC is now working hard and effectively to get ready to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 with India and to play 11 matches in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which is set for September of this year. Only strong financial support can enable such thorough preparation and execution,” the statement continued.

According to the statement, SLC wants to make sure that all of its venues nationwide are upgraded and restored in order to meet international standards for the T20 World Cup. Additionally, it seeks to improve the nation’s cricketing infrastructure, even at the local level. The Lankan organisation is also dedicated to choosing environmentally friendly solutions, such as installing solar-powered equipment, and helping to create a sustainable future.
