Stats: Shubman Gill overtakes Gavaskar, Kohli in most series runs as India captain

By surpassing Sunil Gavaskar as the top run scorer as an Indian captain in a Test series, Shubman Gill cemented his place in Indian cricket history.

This accomplishment took place during the opening session of the first day of the last Test match in the current England vs. India series.

On the last ball of the 21st over of India’s innings, Shubman Gill achieved this by hitting a wide and back-of-a-length delivery from Jamie Overton for a four through covers, his second boundary of the morning and his second of Overton as well.

Speaking of the match, India is at 72/2 after 23 overs, and it has continued until early lunchtime, when an unexpected burst of rain forced the venue to close. Two hitters left off Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson, respectively: KL Rahul (14 off 40) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (2 off 9).

Four changes were made to the visiting team’s starting lineup from the Manchester Test. Shardul Thakur, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Anshul Kamboj were replaced by Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Prasidh Krishna, and Akash Deep, respectively. Arshdeep Singh was not given the opportunity to appear in this series.

After winning the first and third Test matches by five wickets and twenty-two wins, respectively, England is now 2-1 in the series. India’s only triumph occurred at Edgbaston, where Gill scored 430 runs in two innings, setting a new record. In the end, his squad won by a commanding 336 runs.

India survived five sessions over the fourth and fifth days at Old Trafford to secure a hard-fought draw thanks to a great display of grit and perseverance by the Indian hitters in their second innings.
