Zimbabwe Cricket secures US$50,000 sponsorship for domestic sides

In an effort to strengthen Zimbabwe’s local cricket system, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has signed a sponsorship agreement with CABS, a banking company based in Zimbabwe, valued US$50,000.

The money will go to the country’s five top-tier provincial teams—the Eagles, Rhinos, Tuskers, Mountaineers, and Southern Rocks—that participate in the Logan Cup, the Pro50 Championship, and the domestic T20 league, according to a ZC press statement.

According to ZC, the assistance would be provided using a direct-to-team funding mechanism, enabling teams to make investments in vital areas like player welfare, coaching, and talent development. Additionally, it is anticipated that the approach will enhance financial control and transparency, facilitating more accountable and transparent budgeting procedures. The action is a step in the right direction towards fortifying Zimbabwe’s domestic cricket system and guaranteeing sustained growth at both the amateur and professional levels.

“We appreciate CABS joining us as a valuable partner in our domestic cricket endeavours. ZC managing director Givemore Makoni was cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “This type of corporate support plays an important role in strengthening the game’s foundation and enabling long-term growth.”

“For our provincial teams, it means greater stability and the ability to invest more consistently in key areas such as player welfare, coaching and talent development – factors that are essential to building a stronger pipeline for the future of Zimbabwean cricket,” he stated.

Since it began sponsoring T20 games in 2004, CABS has maintained a close connection with cricket in Zimbabwe. According to the statement, the organisation has quietly but steadily supported cricket development programs over the past 20 years, helping to identify and nurture the nation’s young players.

“This sponsorship reflects a dedication to the aspirations of Zimbabwe’s youth, not just support for cricket.

Talented, driven young people all around the nation view sports as a means of achieving opportunity, meaning, and pride, according to CABS managing director Mehluli Mpofu.

“We acknowledge that potential at CABS. We are responding to their demand by funding domestic cricket, creating growth platforms, and assisting in the development of a future in which every young Zimbabwean has the opportunity to succeed,” he continued.

The news comes amid a stellar year for Zimbabwean cricket, where the national team has already participated in seven Test matches and hosted a T20I tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa. New Zealand will now host Zimbabwe for a two-Test series starting on July 30.
