‘Don’t link me to fake news’ – Ashwin dismisses parody comment on India vs Pakistan Asia Cup clash

'Don't link me to fake news' – Ashwin dismisses parody comment on India vs Pakistan Asia Cup clash

Ravichandran Ashwin, a former Indian cricket player, has vehemently denied a false message that was posted on social media and claimed to be from him. The seasoned spinner, who is well-known for expressing his unvarnished thoughts on YouTube and on his show Ash Ki Baat, was unjustly connected to a contentious remark about the India vs. Pakistan matches in two separate competitions.

According to a widely shared post, Ashwin stated that the World Championship of Legends (WCL) match between India and Pakistan was cancelled because the money stake was lower, but that the same match in the upcoming Asia Cup was still going forward because of the increase in financial engagements and the guaranteed returns from viewership and other factors.

The phoney post continued by quoting Ashwin as saying, “Small money is involved, so World Championship of Legends got cancelled, but India is still playing against Pakistan in Asia Cup and BCCI hasn’t cancelled it because the amount of money decides the level of patriotism.”

The off-spinner swiftly dispelled the untrue assertion with a scathing social media retort. “Don’t associate me with this fake news,” he wrote. Those that cause all of this should be ashamed.

Numerous public figures and former cricket players have expressed their thoughts on the postponed match, providing differing viewpoints and analyses of the circumstances. On July 20, the India-Pakistan WCL match was formally cancelled. The organisers apologised in public after the cancellation, expressing their regret for the disappointment that the fans and former Indian players had experienced. Famous batsman Shikhar Dhawan had notably withdrawn from the game, and Suresh Raina subsequently confirmed that he would not be playing either.

India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group for the Asia Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to September 28. This might lead to high-stakes matches between the bitter rivals. Ashwin’s forceful response coincides with mounting worries about the dissemination of false information regarding popular personalities and delicate subjects in the cricket community.
