Tim David set a record for fastest T20I century in 37 balls in the third T20I against the West Indies at Warner Park, St Kitts. After reaching the milestone, Tim David disclosed used a bat of West Indies veteran Andre Russell, who retired from international T20s after the second game.
Australia won the five-match series 3-0 with a six-wicket win after chasing 215 in 16.1 overs. David’s heroics sealed the win after Shai Hope’s maiden T20I tonne earlier in the evening. David’s 100* off 37 balls beat Josh Inglis’ 43-ball century in 2023 as Australia’s quickest T20I century.
“After carrying that Dre Russ bat for a year, it felt like the best time to use it. “I’ve worked on power hitting, but now I’m working on shot selection,” Tim David remarked in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Warner Park is perfect for batting: Tim David
Tim David, who played in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), understood Warner Park conditions and took advantage. He hit 11 sixes in his inning and reached his half-century in 16 balls, a national record. Mitchell Owen, in his third international match, paired David. The pair scored 128 runs for the fifth wicket in 46 balls. Owen came in for 36 off 16 and was useful. They helped Australia cross the line with 23 balls left.
I like playing for Australia in the middle. A home period to reset my body was good. Getting 100 for Australia was a surprise, so I’m excited. A decent pitch with tiny borders requires you to play your talents. David said Warner Park is a terrific site to bat and he enjoyed his CPL experience.
Hope, who scored 100 off 55 balls, became the second West Indian after Chris Gayle to reach hundreds in all forms. His 125-run opening partnership with Brandon King helped the hosts score 214/4.
