[WATCH] 'Leaving her was really tough' – KL Rahul on missing daughter during England tour

During the fourth Test match between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester, Indian opener KL Rahul became down in tears as he talked about his daughter, Evaarah. Rahul acknowledged that leaving his family behind to play in the crucial Test series for the national team was challenging.

During the 2025 Indian Premier League season, Rahul and his spouse, actress Athiya Shetty, welcomed their daughter on March 24, 2025. Before returning to the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the five-match Test series in England in early June, the cricket player had a short two-day holiday.

Before choosing to leave his newborn daughter and play for India A in the warm-up matches before the main series, Rahul revealed that he had a difficult talk with his family.

Yes, I’m in a wonderful stage of life with my family. I’ve always had a soft spot for kids. For a very long time, I’ve wanted kids. made my family and I incredibly happy. We’re in a fantastic position. She is a lovely young child. It’s made our lives so much happier,” Rahul told Cheteshwar Pujara on Sony Sports.

KL Rahul thanked his wife and his family for their steadfast support throughout the England visit.

He revealed that they supported him during the difficult emotional process of leaving his newborn daughter behind and recognised the significance of the series for his career. The top-order batsman, who won the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with an outstanding 421 runs, including two hundreds, acknowledged that it has been difficult to be apart from his daughter.

“I have performed some fatherly tasks, but regrettably, I had to go to play in the Indian Premier League two days after she was born. And I made an effort to return for a few days during the IPL’s breaks before wrapping it off. Since I hadn’t spent any time with her and knew I wouldn’t see her for another two months when I arrived, it was rather difficult for me to decide to come here and play that India A match as well,” KL Rahul remarked.

In order to keep an eye on his daughter and make sure he doesn’t miss any of her special moments as she grows, KL Rahul disclosed that he regularly checks the baby monitor.

“So, I arrived here. I haven’t really met her, but I’m constantly on the baby camera and continually seeing her photos. ensuring that I don’t overlook anything or any aspect of her development. Therefore, it’s challenging to play while travelling and missing every day. “It isn’t seeing her,” he said.
