The new West Indian pre-signing for the Super Giants in Durban, Sunil Narine, is “looking forward to the unique challenges” of playing in the SA20.
One of the most seasoned Twenty20 players in the world, Sunil Narine has won the T20 World Cup twice, won the Indian Premier League several times, and participated in more than 550 T20 matches in leagues across the world.
However, the 37-year-old has only played in South Africa once, in the 2013–14 season, when he assisted the now-defunct Cape Cobras in finishing second in the domestic T20 league. In Season 4, he will make his SA20 debut.
Later this year, Sunil Narine stated, “I’m really excited to start a new chapter with DSG.”
“This is my first time playing in SA20, and I’m excited for the special challenges and enthusiastic audiences it will bring.”
After playing for Paarl Royals for the first two seasons, former England captain Jos Buttler will also be taking on a new SA20 challenge at DSG. Buttler was a prolific player in both seasons, leading the tournament in runs scored with 391 in the first season and 408 in the second, for a total of 799 runs in the SA20.
The 34-year-old will now be pursuing a new career with the Super Giants after missing Season 3 owing to international obligations.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing in South Africa, and I’m excited to be a part of a team that is fearless and driven,” Buttler remarked. “Dr. Sanjiv Goenka and I had a great conversation, and I am eager to get started with DSG.”
Along with keeping fan favourites Heinrich Klaasen and Noor Ahmad, Super Giants coach Lance Klusener greeted the two with wide arms when they arrived at Kingsmead.
“Klaasen and Noor have been outstanding for DSG, and we are excited to continue our journey with them,” Klusener stated.
“Noor’s skill with the ball and Klaasen’s firepower and composure under duress give us a dynamic edge.”
Every team aspires to have the leadership, expertise, and game-winning abilities that Jos and Sunil provide. We’re assembling a versatile team that can perform well under pressure.
