In the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Rishabh Pant has been playing at an incredible level. But one of the biggest obstacles in his path has been injury. He injured his hand trying to save a ball from Jasprit Bumrah on Day 1 of the third Test in London. Dhruv Jurel had to take over since the 27-year-old was unable to hold onto wickets during the match.
Rishabh Pant, however, batted in both innings and scored nine and seventy-four runs.
Rishabh Pant was playing a promising knock on Day 1 of the second Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, reaching 37 runs quickly. But when he tried to play a bold reverse sweep against Chris Woakes in the last practice, the ball struck him flush on the right foot. As the physiotherapist attempted to evaluate the Delhi cricket player’s condition, he was observed limping in pain. At the end of Day 1, Sai Sudharsan confirmed that Pant had scans because he was unable to continue batting and was transported out of the stadium grounds in an ambulance.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed via tweet during the first session on Day 2 that Jurel will once again wear the gloves and that Pant will not be available to keep wickets due to an ailment to his right foot. But according to the apex body, Pant joined the team on the second day and will bat in the middle when called upon.
“Rishabh Pant will not be keeping wickets for the rest of the match after suffering an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. The wicket-keeping duties will be taken on by Dhruv Jurel. Rishabh Pant joined the team on Day 2 despite his ailment and would be available to bat as needed by the team, according to a statement from the BCCI.
