'You're a warrior' – LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka motivates injured Rishabh Pant

Star batsman-wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had to withdraw injured midway through his innings due to a painful foot injury sustained during India’s fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford. Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), sent Pant an emotional and inspirational message wishing him a swift recovery amidst all the uncertainties surrounding his condition and his ability to play the rest of the Test.

Rishabh Pant looked solid throughout his 72-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan, scoring 37 runs off of 48 balls. But in the 68th over, the ball took an inside edge and struck Chris Woakes’ right foot in an attempt to reverse sweep him. The ball struck the bat first even though England reviewed for LBW. Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, was observed in excruciating pain and unable to bear any weight on his foot. The wicketkeeper was finally carried off the pitch on a buggy after receiving on-field medical assistance from the team physiotherapist. The proprietor of LSG then disseminated the message.

“Rishabh Pant, I hope you get well soon. We know you’ll return stronger because you’re a fighter,” he wrote on X.

He was undoubtedly in a lot of pain: Sai Sudharshan

Notably, Rishabh Pant successfully returned to international cricket in 2022 following a terrible automobile accident and a protracted recuperation period. An update on the batter’s ailment was provided by Sudharsan, who stitched a vital partnership with Pant.

“I don’t think he will play a significant role in this game. Yes, he was undoubtedly in a lot of agony. They have, however, gone for scans. Overnight, we shall learn [more]. He was obviously batting really well. If a batter doesn’t return, we shall miss him. Therefore, there will undoubtedly be repercussions. In the post-day interview, Sudharshan stated, “But, at the same time, the batters we have batting right now and there are a few more all-rounders inside, so we will try and give our best and bat long so that we negotiate that loss well.”

India finished Day 1 with 264/4 after 83 overs, despite Pant’s injury. KL Rahul (46) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) put up a solid opening partnership of 94 runs. In his second Test match, Sudharsan achieved his first Test fifty (61). Sudharsan later succumbed to Stokes, and captain Shubman Gill was sent out for twelve. Shardul Thakur (19*) and Ravindra Jadeja (19*) both made it to the end, giving the visitors a respectable lead.
