On Wednesday, July 23, Anshul Kamboj, an elite bowler, received his first cap for the Indian squad, giving him a moment to remember. Following a series of injuries to Indian pacers in the original squad, Anshul Kamboj was draughted into the playing XI for the current fourth Test, which became his debut match. He’ll be trying to make the occasion special for himself.
In the meantime, a little excerpt from Anshul Kamboj motivational tale of rising through the ranks was presented by his boyhood coach, Satish Rana. He recalled a time in the seamer’s career when he was on the verge of retiring from the sport in 2020.
Anshul Kamboj missed the van to the prestigious competition because of an injury shortly before the 2020 U-19 World Cup.
I only ever saw him cry at that moment. He desired to give up cricket. Kamboji’s father, Udham Singh ji, encouraged him to continue as he recognised his son’s ability. According to Satish, who was quoted by The Times of India, Udham ji advised him, “Beta, bas tappa pakad ke daalta reh” (Son, just keep picking a length and adhere to it).
Anshul Kamboj is the epitome of diligence, commitment, and self-control: Satish recounted how Kamboj, who had excelled for India A against the England Lions before the current red-ball series, was first left off of the Indian side.
He returned, and he was at the academy the following morning. He began bowling to a single stump after bringing a few Dukes balls. “Sab theek,” I said to him. (Everything okay? “Sir, I am hopeful,” he said courteously. He maintained his optimism, and now look at him. “This boy exemplifies diligence, commitment, and self-control,” the coach said with pride.
All I wanted was for Father Udham Kamboj to lose weight.
The father of the Haryana native also emphasised and discussed how Udham’s desire for his kid to lose weight served as the impetus for his son’s early cricket career.
“I just wanted to get him back in shape because he was overweight.” It never occurred to me that he would play for India. However, he grew addicted to the game the day I brought him to the academy, and it became his life,” Udham explained.
Before the match, Kamboj, who debuted in First-Class in 2022, was ultimately given his first cap in Manchester. After Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were both ruled out of the current game owing to injuries, he was added to the setup.
