The 37-year-old had previously declared that this game would be his last Twenty20 International, capping an incredible ten-year international career. Russell concluded with 61 wickets and 1122 runs with a strike rate of 163 in 86 Twenty20 Internationals. He was notably a member of the West Indies’ 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup winning teams. The all-rounder thanked his teammates, family, and friends for believing in him and supporting him for so long in his parting address.
“I just want to express my gratitude once more. I’m really happy to have finished my career here. performed in front of my family, friends, and home crowd. Even if I didn’t get the outcome I wanted, I’m still glad and thankful. The last two games have had incredible crowds. Thank you very much. We did our best. I think I should simply end it now and wish the boys the best of luck in the future. I’m really appreciative that this incredible global career came to an end in Sabina Park. During the post-match interview, he stated, “Keep on supporting.”
English-Green home guide for Australians
With Andre Russell once again playing a brilliant knock, the home team struggled in the contest at 98 for 5. With two fours and four massive sixes, he scored 36 runs off of just 15 deliveries. He faced Adam Zampa and Ben Dwarshuis during his innings. However, the veteran’s appearance was cut short as Nathan Ellis dismissed him in the 17th over.
Australia emerged victorious even though Andre Russell spectacular efforts drove the West Indies to 172/8.
With eight wickets and over five overs remaining, Josh Inglis (78* off 33) and Cameron Green (56* off 33) put up a record-breaking 131-run partnership to chase down the goal and give the team a 2-0 series lead.
The West Indies had started strongly earlier, but they were unable to achieve the 200-run milestone once more as a result of a middle-order collapse brought on by Zampa and Glenn Maxwell. Before wickets fell, the hosts got a strong start thanks to Brandon King’s fifty-one.
