Manoj Tiwary, a former cricket player from India, criticised Indian skipper Shubman Gill for being aggressive during the third Test match against England at Lord’s. In an attempt to waste time and run down the clock, Gill and England opener Zak Crawley got into a verbal altercation on the evening of Day 3.
According to Manoj Tiwary, Gill was attempting to emulate Virat Kohli’s strategy, which had an indirect impact on his batting. Additionally, he advised Gill to be aggressive without verbally retaliating against other players because doing so will drain his energy.
“I disagree with Captain Gill’s approach to the situation. I believe he is attempting to emulate Virat’s previous actions. Consequently, it is not improving his batting. I have observed that he has been acting more aggressively and engaging in impassioned conversations with umpires ever since he was appointed captain of the IPL. It wasn’t like Gill.
According to SportsBoom, Manoj Tiwary stated, “He doesn’t have to prove anything or display that kind of aggression.”
“I understand that a captain should take the lead, but this level of hostility is unnecessary. It drains your vitality. He is free to continue acting aggressively. You are not required to return it verbally every time. Winning Test matches is another way to demonstrate aggression. India might have easily taken a 2-1 lead in the series. “This kind of aggression is bad for the game, especially from the Indian cricket team’s captain,” he continued.
Additionally, Manoj Tiwary was not pleased with the language used during the Lord’s match. He maintained that this style of approach became commonplace and that occasionally control was required.
“The phrases and words that appear in the audio when they are close to the stumps bother me. You are playing for the cricket squad from India. Since former captains have likely used such language to vent their rage, I believe this has become a trend, but it must be reined in. “The next generation will learn slang if you use it,” Tiwary stated.
