Aakash Chopra picks India XI for 4th Test, includes Pant and Jurel

The Indian XI for the fourth Test match against England in Manchester has been selected by former cricketer Aakash Chopra. He selected Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant to bat at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, in his XI.

India has to win the game at Old Trafford to maintain their aspirations of winning a series in England since 2007, since they are now behind 1-2 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal ought to open for India in the upcoming Test, according to Aakash Chopra.

“There will be no doubt regarding the two openers. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a mediocre third Test match, but that’s inevitable. Not every game results in runs being scored. In the first and third games, KL Rahul scored hundreds. Chopra stated on his YouTube channel that there shouldn’t be any alterations made there.

To give Karun Nair another chance, Aakash Chopra insisted on keeping him at No. 3. He selected Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, to start at number four. Despite not keeping wickets in the last game due to a hand injury, the former Indian opener asked the Indian team management to include Pant at No. 5.

“The topic of whether Karun Nair deserves another shot will be asked at No. 3. Karun Nair hasn’t appeared to be in a bad mood. He hasn’t scored enough runs, though, for you to declare his selection assured.

Since he might not have another chance, I’m still tempted to play him at number three,” Aakash Chopra remarked.

“Gill Shubman at number four.” If Rishabh Pant is not keeping, he shouldn’t play, according to Ravi Shastri. Only four players, in my opinion—KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant—have scored runs. Despite his injury, he continued to score runs. Play Rishabh Pant as a batter if he is unable to keep,” he continued.

Given that he made runs during the two-match series between the India A and England Lions, Aakash Chopra selected Jurel to start at No. 6. Additionally, he emphasised that if Pant is not fit enough to keep wickets, Jurel can.

“Dhruv Jurel is my choice at number six because you only have top-order possibilities other than him. Sai Sudharsan was at number three and Karun was at number six, but that is unlikely to occur. Dhruv Jurel made runs for India A against the England Lions, therefore start him at number six,” Aakash Chopra said.

The former cricket player turned pundit acknowledged that Washington Sundar and veteran Ravindra Jadeja would continue to be included in the starting lineup. It is unlikely that India will select Kuldeep Yadav as an additional spinner because the Old Trafford ground is more suited for pacers.

Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, in Chopra’s opinion, will undoubtedly be included in the starting lineup. The visitors are still having trouble selecting a third pacer, though, as Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna are the front-runners. India may have to add a new player to the team if Akash Deep is sidelined because of the groin ache he suffered at Lord’s.

“Ravindra Jadeja will undoubtedly perform. Washington Sundar is coming after taking four wickets, so I think he will play as well. You can’t play an extra spinner here, in my opinion. It’s neither Edgbaston nor Oval. Here, you’ll need to play fast bowlers. So I am thinking three fast bowlers,” Chopra said.

“Bumrah and Siraj will be seen playing for sure. The third pacer could be a toss-up between Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna if Akash Deep is unavailable. Ideally, you should go back to Prasidh Krishna, but he has leaked a lot of runs. So you might see Anshul Kamboj debuting here,” he concluded.

Aakash Chopra’s XI for India in fourth Test:

Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj/Akash Deep
