Mohammed Siraj revealed that his dismissal during India’s run-chase in the third Test of the current five-match series against England left him feeling devastated for a long time. Alongside Ravindra Jadeja, Siraj put up a heroic fight, but after spending a lot of time at the bat, he was dismissed for just 4 runs, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead and a close 22-run victory over England.
Additionally, he expressed his sympathy for Jadeja (61* off 181) and Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54), who both fought valiantly in the middle and helped the team get closer to the finish line. However, it was not to be, as Siraj’s defence off Bashir ended up leaking down to the wickets, hitting the bails with enough force to knock them off.
For a long period, I felt horrible. I’m a sensitive individual. We could have had a 1-2 lead if we had prevailed. Bumrah bhai and Jaddu bhai both performed incredibly well.
At the pre-match press conference in Manchester prior to the fourth Test, Siraj stated, “But now we, the lower-order batters, are batting in the nets.”
The Hyderabad native went on to discuss how he manages his workload and how he has always given his all while serving as the country’s representative. He also believes that wearing the Indian jersey when he takes the field is what motivates him the most, and he is prepared to give it his all, regardless of how the game turns out.
“I’ve been blessed with terrific health. I want to play as many games as I can for the nation and make the most of the opportunities. Being able to represent the country is what drives me most when I play for it. I want to live my life to the fullest. I don’t want to think about what I could have done on the pitch when I go to sleep. Regardless of the outcome in the end, I don’t want to look back and regret not giving it my all on the pitch,” he said.
Despite the lower middle-order’s resolute struggle, India lost at Lord’s. They will be anxious to avoid finding themselves in a similar situation and return to the series. The start of the fourth Test is set for Wednesday, July 23.
