On Day 1 of the third Test match between India and England at the storied Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, Rishabh Pant hurt his left index finger while attempting to block a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. As Dhruv Jurel took over, he failed to hold onto wickets for the remainder of the Test match. However, despite suffering from agony, Pant batted in both innings and scored 74 and 9.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate stated on India’s first training day following their 22-run defeat in the third Test at the Home of Cricket that Pant’s injury will be closely watched in the lead-up to the fourth Test, which is set to begin on Wednesday, July 23 at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
According to sources, Jurel took up wicketkeeping responsibilities during the Manchester Test, while Rishabh Pant played as a specialist hitter. However, the fact that Pant has begun practicing wicketkeeping drills at India’s most recent training session would be a huge relief to Indian supporters. The fact that the Indian vice captain has begun wicketkeeping, even though the drills were somewhat simple, is encouraging since it shows that he is nearing the end of his recuperation.
Sahil Malhotra, a journalist for the Times of India, shared a video on ‘X’ of Pant wearing the wicketkeeping gloves during practice. He observed that the Delhi cricket player appeared well while executing the drills despite having a badly wrapped damaged finger.

What is Rishabh Pant’s performance in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy?
In the current five-match Test series between England and India, Pant has been playing exceptionally well. Pant became just the second wicketkeeper in the history of the sport to get hundreds in both innings during the first Test match at Headingley, Leeds.
In six innings, the Haridwar native has scored 425 runs at an average of 70.83. In addition to the two centuries, he has also achieved two half-centuries.
