According to reports, star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will miss the rest of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy because of a knee injury. The announcement is made ahead of India’s crucial fourth Test match against England at Manchester’s Old Trafford.
Nitish Kumar injury, which occurred on Sunday during an indoor training session, has contributed to India’s mounting injury worries. The 22-year-old hurt his left knee while working out at the gym, and further scans revealed ligament damage, according to an ESPNcricinfo report. Although the specifics of the injury are still unknown, the indications suggest that Nitish Kumar would miss not only the fourth Test (July 23–27), but also the last Test.
Anshul Kamboj had previously been called up by the visitors to cover for injuries in the pace department. This followed fitness worries for Arshdeep Singh (bowling hand injury) and Akash Deep (groin issue), both of whom are also questionable for the match at Old Trafford.
Nitish Kumar played in the second Test at Edgbaston and the subsequent match at Lord’s after missing the first Test in Leeds.
In the first innings of the third Test, he got rid of England’s openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the same over, and he got Crawley again in the second. In an attempt to hold onto his spot for the fourth Test, he also made contributions with the bat, hitting 30 and 13.
Shardul Thakur is considered a potential substitute.
India may now try to reintroduce Shardul Thakur as the seam-bowling all-rounder in light of this injury setback. In the event that wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s finger problem prevents him from wearing gloves, Dhruv Jurel might also be considered.
Akash Deep, who contributed significantly to the second Test victory at Birmingham with a 10-wicket haul, was uncharacteristic at Lord’s and is currently dealing with physical concerns. Arshdeep, who appeared to be a potential substitute, hasn’t bowled since suffering a hand injury during practice.
India’s fast-bowling resources are being constrained since Mohammed Siraj has bowled the most overs in the series thus far and Jasprit Bumrah’s workload is being carefully regulated. Given the need for victory, the team management has stated that Bumrah is probably going to make a comeback for the Manchester Test. India will have to immediately reassemble and make some difficult selection choices because England is leading the series 2-1. Due to budget constraints, the squad may decide to reinstate pacer Prasidh Krishna in the starting lineup.
