India’s participation in the Asia Cup, the continent’s most prestigious cricket competition, is currently in grave danger of being eliminated. According to reports, if the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) and its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, cannot agree to move the conference’s location from Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to attend the meeting before the tournament.
The report’s source added that if their demands are not satisfied, the Indian board will not consent to passing any resolution. The source added that the board has already sent a letter to chairman Naqvi requesting the venue change, but the board has not heard back as of yet.
On Saturday, July 19, the Hindustan Times reported that the Asia Cup could only take place if the meeting location was changed from Dhaka.
Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the ACC, is attempting to put undue pressure on India to attend the conference. We asked him to move the event, but we haven’t heard back. It said, “If Mohsin Naqvi proceeds with the meeting in Dhaka, BCCI will boycott any resolution.”
Due to the near proximity of several locations and the minimal logistical hurdles, the United Arab Emirates is the chosen location for the 2025 edition of the international event. Furthermore, whenever the necessity of holding games at a neutral location has been brought up, places like Dubai and Abu Dhabi have frequently been the most popular locations.
BCC’s continued geopolitical problems with the adjacent government could be one of the reasons they are against the meeting taking place in Dhaka. A recent press release from the BCCI stated that the tour, which included three ODIs and as many T20Is, was cancelled. The two teams were originally scheduled to play a multi-format series in August.
