Surprised by Gill, but Rahul will outscore him in next games - Owais Shah

Former England hitter Owais Shah was startled by India’s new Test skipper Shubman Gill‘s Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 runs. He believes seasoned opener KL Rahul would outscore the Punjab batter in the forthcoming rounds.

In the first three Test matches of the England tour, KL and Shubman have scored spectacular runs. Gill leads the run scoring list with 607 runs from three matches at 101.17. In contrast, Rahul had scored 375 runs at 62.50 in three games. Rahul has scored 50 or more in every match since Gill failed in both innings of the third Test at Lord’s.

Shah said everyone anticipated Gill to take the spotlight once Virat Kohli withdrew from Test cricket, but Rahul has impressed him more.

“He may have been shadowed by Kohli. Having Kohli at the crease made him your main batsman, and Rahul was overlooked. But now is his opportunity to shine. The first series sans Virat Kohli. Shubman Gill has done well in the batting order, which surprised me. Shah said on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, “I didn’t think he could do what he’s done so far.”

“I still think KL Rahul is the best batter in the lineup and should be trusted. He needs to deliver the numbers his technique and disposition promise. I expect him to mature in the coming year “Shah stated.

Over 10-15 matches, KL may outscore Shubman Gill.

England leads the five-match series 2-1. The fourth Test begins Wednesday, July 23, at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
