'Whenever India are bowling, he thinks it’s not out' - R Ashwin slams Paul Reiffel's umpiring

Reiffel was blamed by former Indian off-spinner R Ashwin, who described it as a habit of poor judgements against India. R Ashwin talked candidly about his encounter with the seasoned umpire on his YouTube channel, Ash ki Baat.

Several bad umpiring calls have been made during the current third Test match between India and England at Lord’s, especially by Australian umpire Paul Reiffel. With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series tied at one, a number of decisions caught the eye on Day 4 of the match and drew criticism from both spectators and former players.

“Paul Reiffel’s experience with me… I’d like to speak with him. Giving it out is not something I’m saying I should tell him. That isn’t the case. India always feels it’s not out when he bowls. India always feels it’s out when he bats. The ICC must take action if it is against all teams rather than just India,” he stated.

According to my father, India will never win when Paul Reiffel visits: R Ashwin became anxious on two occasions. He began by talking about how Reiffel rejected Mohammed Siraj’s confident LBW challenge against Joe Root, despite the fact that replays revealed the ball would have nicked the leg stump. The ‘umpire’s call’ rule under DRS meant that the umpire retained the decision. Despite DRS replays demonstrating no contact with the bat, Shubman Gill was controversially declared caught behind by Reiffel off Brydon Carse later in the day.

Another option involving a large distance between bat and ball was also discussed by R Ashwin.

“I can park my sedan, which I own, in the space between the bat and the ball. It was obviously not out. However, this isn’t the first instance. My dad and I were watching the game together. “India will not win whenever Paul Reiffel comes,” he informed me. The umpires should have been a little more tough with players who took their time, according to Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton, he said.

Legendary spinner and former India captain Anil Kumble too shared his thoughts on Reiffel’s choices. Paul Reiffel appears to have made the decision that it will not be released. “Anything near, not out,” Kumble stated live.
