'Arguably the best all-format player of the last 15 years' – Kane Williamson’s high praise for Virat Kohli

Since India defeated New Zealand by three wickets in the 2008 Under-19 semi-final, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli have advanced significantly. In that match, Williamson was removed by Kohli when Shreevats Goswami stumped the Kiwi batsman down the leg-side.

Kane Williamson had to wait two more years to make his debut in the New Zealand playing XI, whereas Kohli made his debut in international cricket in 2008. Together with Steve Smith and Joe Root, they were a member of the ‘Fab 4’ and demonstrated exceptional consistency from their early days on the international circuit.

In a recent interview, Kane Williamson, the former captain of New Zealand, lavished Kohli with adulation.

Kane Williamson called the former captain of India the best all-around cricket player of the past 15 years. The Kiwi icon also praised Kohli for managing the strain of expectations that comes with representing a cricket-mad country like India.

“This is arguably the best all-format player we have seen in the past fifteen years.” has its own difficulties in a nation that is completely obsessed with cricket, and he has been at the top of that tree. On Saturday, July 12, Williamson told Sky Sports, “Look, there are great relationships and friendships with all of them in slightly different ways and stay in touch in a lot of ways as well.”

Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket in May and T20I cricket in 2024. He still plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is a member of India’s ODI squad, though. Although he hasn’t retired from any international cricket format yet, Williamson hasn’t signed a professional contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) since the previous year. This gives the right-handed hitter the freedom to select the assignments he wishes to participate in.

Williamson has scored 19,087 runs in 105 Test matches, 173 ODIs, and 93 T20Is. In contrast, Kohli has scored 27,599 runs in 123 Test matches, 302 ODIs, and 125 T20Is.
