An unexpected fire at the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Conference Hall on Saturday afternoon caused major property damage but no injuries.
The plant emitted thick smoke about 2:15 PM from an electrical short circuit, which was suspected of starting the incident.
Odisha Cricket Association staff contacted the fire department, who responded swiftly from Cuttack’s Buxi Bazar fire station.
By acting quickly, the firemen were able to contain the fire and minimise damage. The fires were quenched quickly, but the conference hall’s critical equipment and furniture were destroyed, affecting the association’s operations.
A complete study is underway to ascertain the outbreak’s cause, however preliminary studies point to an electrical fault. OCA personnel and cricket fans were relieved there were no injuries. The group has not released a statement on the damage or recovery operations.
“After hearing about the incident, a Cuttack Fire Station team arrived immediately. We requested help from another squad after viewing. Instant fire control. Odisha TV quoted Assistant Fire Officer Sanjeeb Behera as saying the thick smoke was dispersed.
“We suspect an air conditioner short circuit caused the fire,” he said.
The incident has raised red flags about fire readiness and infrastructure safety at state sports facilities, especially those with sensitive electrical systems.
