According to former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, Akash Deep was unproductive on the opening day of the third Test between England and India because he tried too hard to take a wicket. The cricketer-turned-commentator spoke after Akash Deep failed to take a wicket in 17 overs on Day 1.
He noticed that Akash Deep lacked the control he showed at Edgbaston, where he took four and six wickets in the first and second innings.
Bowlers often make the error of being too eager, like Akash Deep.
He took 10 wickets in the last match by bowling first, expecting movement and an attempt to gain a wicket every delivery. Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo that he lost control and simplicity, his main weapons and the basis for his success in the last Test.

Manjrekar believed the hosts will score a huge first innings total that India would have to match.
“Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes will bat better on this pitch, therefore a big score is possible whether Joe Root is in or out. India’s confidence should lead to another massive score. Manjrekar said these two sides are playing like tennis.
India took only four wickets on day one. The unbeaten batters at Stumps were Joe Root (99* off 191) and Ben Stokes (39* off 102). Nitish Kumar Reddy (2/46 in 14 overs) took two wickets in his first over.
