The CID in Hyderabad detained Jagan Mohan Rao, the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, on Wednesday, July 9, in connection with accusations made against him during the 2025 Indian Premier League at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. In addition to the problems with the association’s governance during the event, a recent investigation found some disparities in the way the tickets were distributed.
Additionally, it has been alleged that Jagan Mohan Rao and other high-ranking HCA officials engaged in black-marketing by pressuring Sunrisers Hyderabad to sell extra tickets and tickets for individual sale.
In addition, the team has accused Rao of extortion and pressure, saying he even locked the corporate box at the stadium a few hours prior to a game.
In advance of the competition, SRH and HCA had agreed to keep the cap at 3,900 free passes. Additionally, SRH has urged the BCCI and the tournament’s governing council to step in and resolve the problem that the Jagan Mohan Rao-led state association caused.
HCA Secretary R. Devraj had scheduled a meeting with SRH authorities at the home location in order to settle the issue. Saravanan, Rohit Suresh, and Kiran, three SRH representatives, attended the talks.
In order to guarantee that 10% of the available stadium capacity across all sections is distributed appropriately, SRH suggested during the talks that the current tri-party agreement between SRH, HCA, and BCCI be carefully followed. In response, HCA suggested keeping the current distribution of passes in each category, which has been the standard for many years. The following resolution was decided upon after extensive talks and additional phone discussions with SRH CEO Mr Shanmugam: the category allocation of 3900 complimentary passes to HCA will remain unchanged, consistent with established practice’, according to the joint statement released by SRH and HCA, which was cited by NDTV Sports.
The 2024 IPL 2025 runners-up did not perform particularly well. With six victories, seven defeats, and one game declared a no-result because of the continuous rain, they ultimately finished sixth. They finished with a net run rate of -0.241 and 13 points on the standings.
