In order to demonstrate that women’s cricket bowlers were indeed capable of achieving the feat, Lauren Filer stated her desire to break the 80 mph speed barrier with the ball. She wants the aim to be pursued by the whole women’s cricket community.
During the current five-match T20I series between England Women and India Women, she broke into the top 10 quickest overs (in terms of average speed) to be bowled in women’s cricket for the third time.
“It’s not necessarily a personal accomplishment for me, but it does demonstrate that women can reach that goal, and hopefully others can too.”
According to the BBC, Lauren Filer stated, “We want a lot of women to be able to be bowling at that speed—I don’t want it just to be one or two people.”
“I believe that after Friday, people will likely talk about it more than they did before, and if I can reach it, [80 mph], hopefully it will inspire others to try to reach that as well, making the game even more thrilling than it is now,” she continued.

On Wednesday, July 9, England and India will play the fourth Twenty20 International of the series. After winning the opening two games, the visitors are now ahead. England managed to win the third match by a slim margin thanks to an outstanding opening partnership in the first innings. In order for the final match to be the decider, they would be trying to equalise the playing field. After that, 50-over matches would take over.
