Shubman Gill should concentrate on his own game and not get too caught up in shattering the record Sir Donald Bradman has held in Test cricket for nearly a century, according to former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar. In the current series, Shubman Gill has amassed 585 runs in just four innings, giving him the chance to surpass Australian great Bradman’s record of 974 runs from the 1930 Ashes.
Vengsarkar did not want it to become his primary motivation, even though he anticipated and hoped Gill would break the record of most runs scored in a bilateral series.
Vengsarkar wants Shubman Gill to stay focused on the goals of his team.
“I’m hoping he does.” I am certain that he has an opportunity, but I am not sure if he will take it. I think he should do it since he is in excellent form. On the other hand, pursuing personal milestones is not important. because we have an unhealthy obsession with personal milestones. Winning games for our nation is what counts and that is the key (thing). According to NDTV Sports, Vengsarkar said, “In the end, what counts is the impact of an innings or a spell.”
The former top-order batsman for India continued by praising Shubman Gill and his colleagues for their performance in spite of the absence of experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to mentor them.
He is a skilled athlete. He has proven in England that he is a top-tier batter. Everyone was worried about what would happen to the Indian team without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma due to the English conditions. However, I am really happy of these young guys because they have proven that they are capable of accomplishing it,” he continued.
Lord’s will host the third Test match between India and England. In the second game of the series, the Shubman Gill-led team thrashed the hosts by 336 runs. Their goal would be to maintain the momentum and possibly take the lead into the last few games.
