The cricket community is praising Shubman Gill greatly for his achievements during the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Prior to the England tour, he was named captain of India’s Test squad, and in his first two games in the new position, he has excelled.
So far on the England tour, Shubman Gill has hammered 585 runs at an average of 146.25 in four innings.
After the Asian powerhouses had lost seven Test matches and drawn one at the storied Edgbaston since 1967, he guided India to their first-ever Test victory there last week.
During the 10-team event, Kevin Pietersen, a former England batter and the coach of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, recalls his chat with Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill. The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster informed him that he is moving his feet more energetically and is busier at the crease than previously.
“He is now occupied at the crease. When he was playing for KKR a few years ago, I recall being rather critical of him in the commentary, stating that he was lethargic and a touch slow at the wicket. He’s much busier now, though. He has improved. I told him, “You’ve become a lot more busy, and I really like how active your feet are,” during the Indian Premier League. Pietersen remarked, “I like how committed you are, both on the front foot and the back foot.”
Pietersen spoke to Shubman Gill as a “absolute star” and lauded his pull shot. The former cricket player also recalled how, early in his Test career, when the Punjab batsman wasn’t making many runs, he had stood up and pleaded with the Indian team management to support him.
“He’s playing a really amazing pull shot right now. He truly is a star. And to be honest, I’m thankful because a few years ago, even when Shubman Gill wasn’t scoring runs, I placed my head on the block and said, “Please leave Shubman alone— he’s a quality player.” Fortunately, he has arrived well,” he continued.
