Virat Kohli hails Shubman Gill after record-breaking knock at Edgbaston – 'Well played, star boy'

Following his spectacular knocks in the current Test of the five-match series between England and India, Virat Kohli thanked Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian Test team. Gill’s knocks of 269 and 161 at Edgbaston cemented his status in cricket legend.

Gill was shown enjoying his double-ton on Virat Kohli Instagram story. “Great job, star boy. rewriting the past. From here, it’s up and down. All of this is yours to have,” Kohli stated.

Notably, Gill’s poor red-ball performances in the past has him under criticism going into the current series. But with record-breaking innings in the first two Test matches, the youthful player has silenced his detractors.

Following his knocks at Edgbaston, Shubman shattered a number of records and made his way onto numerous prestigious elite lists. The cricket community around the world has been praising the 25-year-old.

With more than 55% of his runs coming from boundaries, Shubman 430-run total included 43 fours and 11 sixes. After Allan Border (150* & 153) against Pakistan in Lahore in 1980, Gill became just the second batter in the history of the format to score 150 or more in both innings of a Test.

Additionally, Gill became one of the few cricket players to appear in four stands of 100 or more in a single Test. In terms of Indian cricket, he outperformed many others in a variety of accomplishments. Overall, the recently appointed Test captain has had a wonderful day.

Having said that, England was at 72 for 3 in 16 overs at stumps on Day 4 with Joe Root (six off 16), Zak Crawley (zero off seven), and Ben Duckett (25 off 15) back in the hut. Unless the English can do something spectacular on the last day, the visitors appear to be the favourites to win.
