After his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, shared a startling Instagram post accusing him of criminal wrongdoing, Mohammed Shami, the top fast bowler for India, found himself embroiled in controversy once more.
The accusations were made a few days after the Calcutta High Court ruled on July 2 that Shami must pay Jahan INR 1.5 lakh, their daughter Aaira INR 2.5 lakh, and maintenance totalling INR 4 lakh per month. The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act was used to pass the order, which was supposed to take effect seven years ago. Jahan accused Shami on Instagram on Friday, July 4.
“Inshallah, we will have a solid relationship until the day I die. The only thing left to do is choose the type of powerful connection you want. We have been engaged in a legal battle for seven years. How has it benefited you? You destroyed your own family as a result of your lack of morals, selfishness, and cruelty. How many criminals have you bought off to hurt me, to make fun of me, to harass me, to beat me up everywhere?
Have you accomplished anything? The money you squandered on prostitutes and thieves. Things would have been so much better if you had used that money to give me a nice life and to invest in your daughter’s education, life, and future. We could have led dignified and honourable lives, and you would have been delivered from sin.
You used a society that was ruled by men and remained content while antisocial individuals made fun of me. Inshallah, I will now seek legal assistance, assert all of our rights, and lead a happy life. Which support—legal or social—is stronger, you ask? However, keep in mind that everyone who is morally backing you at this moment is endorsing your transgressions. Insha’Allah, these same individuals will ruin your life the moment your terrible period starts. “Believe that,” she wrote.

After being married in 2014, Jahan and Shami welcomed a daughter in 2015. But when Jahan, a former model and KKR supporter, accused the cricket player of domestic abuse, dowry harassment, and even match-fixing in 2018, their relationship fell apart. A protracted judicial struggle resulted from the accusations, during which Jahan claimed Shami had abused his money and cut off financial support.
In 2023, a lower court had first granted her INR 50,000 a month for herself and INR 80,000 for her daughter; she challenged this ruling in the High Court. Her legal team contended that the previous decision was inadequate in light of Shami’s yearly income of more than INR 7 crore.
Shami’s fitness issues prevent him from playing in the England tour.
Shami’s financial responsibilities have increased dramatically as a result of the Calcutta High Court’s decision; they currently total INR 4 lakh per month, with arrears going back to 2017. The pacer has continuously rejected all claims in spite of the grave accusations. Despite missing the current England Test series because of fitness issues, he is still playing cricket for India.
