Karun Nair, an Indian batsman, hasn’t been having a great comeback to the national team. He was dismissed in the second innings of the second Test match against England, which was played at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, after scoring his fourth consecutive low score. On Day 3, wicketkeeper Jamie Smith made a regulation catch behind the stumps after Karun Nair, who batted at No. 3 in this match, edged a full-ish ball by Brydon Carse.
The English kid had been consistently harassing Karun Nair with short, bouncy deliveries, so this was a fantastic set-up wicket for him. Nair had decided to drive anything that was pitched even a bit fuller after a few balls found the outside edge but stayed clear of the fielders at the slip cordon. This decision also led to him obtaining a boundary between the point and the gully region in the previous over.
Carse was astute enough to force Nair into drive once more in the following over. The batter’s instincts went out with the stroke when he spotted a full-length ball approaching, but he was forced to return to the pavilion after scoring 26 runs off of 46 balls.

Regarding Nair’s performance in the series, the Karnataka native batted at No. 6 in the Headingley Test, where India lost, and recorded scores of 0 and 20. Nair joined Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease at No. 3 when he arrived in Birmingham, and the management attempted to move him up the order. He looked excellent for his 31 runs, but on the 50th delivery he faced, a short ball caught him off surprise. Then Carse did it again in the second inning.
Nair has amassed 77 runs from the series’ first two games, which is a little worrisome considering how promising he was going into the setup thanks to his outstanding domestic achievements. Whether the management selects someone like Abhimanyu Easwaran or B Sai Sudharsan, or whether the seasoned batter gets a chance for the third Test, will be interesting to watch.
