Rishabh Pant protests to the umpire for Harry Brook's antics

On Day 3 of the second Test match against India at Edgbaston, England batsman Harry Brook took too long to get ready, and Rishabh Pant was heard complaining to the square-leg umpire about it.

On the stump mic, Rishabh Pant was heard publicly criticising Brook’s strategies and urging Jadeja to bowl.

Rishabh Pant was also praised by the pundits, who said that the wicketkeeper-batter was the only person qualified to highlight such subtleties.

Despite a 303-run stand with Jamie Smith, Brook was interviewed at the end of the day’s play and commended the Indian bowlers for their effective use of the second new ball to rally back into the match. Brook commended the skilful utilisation of angles by players like Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.

“They used the new ball to bowl exceptionally well. At the back-end there, specifically when I was batting, they had it moving off the seam and off the pitch quite a bit. Compared to them, we extracted less from the surface. You see that a lot in India, and I believe they are accustomed to these conditions with these skiddy low pitches. They made excellent use of the angles. While attempting to slant it back into the off-stump, Akash Deep went wide on the crease. The same is true with Siraj,” Brook told Jio Hotstar.

The way Brook (158 off 234) was batting with Jamie Smith, it looked like England would end up taking the lead. But with the second new ball, Siraj and Deep destroyed the English lower order. Smith scored 184 off 207 to finish undefeated. The team captained by Shubman Gill managed to extend their lead by 180 runs.
