Sanju Samson emerges as costliest pick in Kerala Cricket League auctions

Before the Kerala Cricket League’s second season, star cricketer Sanju Samson recently made history by being the most expensive player to be auctioned off at the league’s event. Since he was removed from the Kerala squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25 by the state association due to a contentious absence from the training camp before the 50-over domestic event, the move is significant for the stumper-batter.

For an incredible INR 26.80 lakh, the Kochi Blue Tigers acquired Sanju Samson.

Given his years of expertise in both the Indian Premier League and international cricket, bidders were quick to raise their paddles in order to secure the services of the seasoned player, even if his base price was only INR 3 lakh. Notably, because to his obligations with the Indian national team, the talented wicketkeeper-batter missed the tournament’s first edition.

Sanju Samson has been playing cricket nonstop from March through July. The IPL and the T20 World Cup have been demanding over the past two months. He continued to play for the Indian T20 sides when they toured Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe following the T20 World Cup. As a result, Sanju requested a break from the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). KCA authorities had already notified Indian Express that his name was not included in the player auction as well.

After Sanju Samson, Vishnu Vinod was the second most expensive player on the list. The Aries Kollam team paid a hefty INR 13.8 lakh to acquire him. Vishnu Vinod is notable for having played for the Indian Premier League’s Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians over the years.

In addition, Alleppey Ripples will be playing with the seasoned all-rounder and domestic cricket icon Jalaj Saxena, who was sold for INR 12.4 lakh. More information about the second season’s schedule are still pending and will be made public by the organisers when the time comes.
