Team India told to stay indoors after suspicious package found in Birmingham"

Following the discovery of a suspicious parcel in the area surrounding Birmingham’s Centenary Square, the Indian cricket team was advised to stay indoors on the eve of their second Test of the current five-match series against England.

Following a social media post by the Birmingham City Centre Police, the players were told to stay indoors, according to a source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

During the interval between the first and second Tests, the players and support staff were notably visiting the regions close to the busy Broad Street.

As we look into a suspicious parcel, we have a cordon in place around Centenary Square in the heart of Birmingham. Just before 3 p.m., we received the alarm, and several buildings have been evacuated as a precaution until the situation is investigated. Birmingham City Centre Police said on X, “Please stay away from the area.”

The team’s ten members had an off day, but eight players, including captain Shubman Gill, had shown up for training at Edgbaston. An hour later, the cops removed the cordon.

Returning to the present series, India is currently down after the hosts defeated them by five wickets in the closing session of the fifth day at Headingley after chasing down a challenging 371-run total. Despite taking a slim six-run lead in the first innings, India lost badly due to a number of missed catches and bowling indiscipline.

India faces a more difficult task at Edgbaston because of their dismal performance there. India has lost seven of the eight Test matches they have played at the location thus far. With four games remaining, Gill and company would be hoping to improve the situation.
