Nathan Lyon, an Australian spinner, is eager to play more and lead his country to a second ICC World Test Championship (WTC) championship. In addition to being a member of the side that lost to South Africa at Lord’s in June, the off-spinner was instrumental in the Australians’ maiden triumph in the 2023 WTC Final against India.
Despite recently giving wicketkeeper Alex Carey the task of leading Australia’s victory song, Lyon has no immediate plans to retire. Nathan Lyon has a lot on his plate, including winning another WTC title and away series in England and India.
“I’ve consistently stated my desire to succeed in India. I’d like to win in England. In a few years, we will have that chance, but we must also take it one step at a time and ensure that we are doing everything correctly in the West Indies,” Nathan Lyon told ICC.
“Then, we have the Ashes at home for a fantastic summer. However, I would definitely be in the running for another World Test Championship Final,” he continued.
Nathan Lyon is ranked third among Australian bowlers with 556 Test wickets to date.
Legendary leggie Shane Warne (708), and former right-arm seamer Glenn McGrath (563), are at the top of the charts.
The cricketer, who was born in New South Wales, wants to win games for his team in the longest format rather than trying to become Australia’s top wicket-taker.
“Warney is far away.” He is, in my opinion, the best player to have ever played the game. I’m simply fortunate to be a member of a very unique cricket team right now. As I constantly say, we are not quite there, but we are on our path to becoming a great cricket team. But it’s unique to perform my part and be a part of this bowling attack. I continue to play because of that,” Nathan Lyon said.
