‘Nitish Reddy’s debut is near’ – Ryan Ten Doeschate on Edgbaston chances

"In order to bring in a batting all-rounder, we are investigating methods to rearrange the puzzle. "Nitish is undoubtedly our best batting all-round player right now," Ten Doeschate stated.

'Nitish Reddy's debut is near' – Ryan Ten Doeschate on Edgbaston chances

All-rounder Nitish Reddy is “very close” to participating in the second Test match against England, which is set to start on Wednesday, July 2, according to Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach. He clarified that in order to bolster the bowling unit, Shardul Thakur was selected to play in the opening Test match at Headingley.

Nitish Reddy outstanding efforts in Australia were hailed by Ten Doeschate, who called him the team’s best batting all-rounder. Reddy has a good chance of being included in the playing XI for the Edgbaston Test, he continued.

He’s on the verge of getting a game. In Australia, he was outstanding. At the press conference on Monday, June 30, ten Doeschate stated, “We felt balanced going into the final game and wanted to go with a bowling all-rounder, and we thought Shardul (Thakur) was slightly ahead on the bowling front.”

“In order to bring in a batting all-rounder, we are investigating methods to rearrange the puzzle. He has a great chance to play in this Test, in my opinion,” he continued.

It goes without saying that Nitish Reddy is currently our best batting all-around player.

The 45-year-old also admitted that Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion in the second Test is something the team management is looking forward to. He did point out that the balance of the middle and lower middle-order will ultimately determine Kuldeep’s selection.

“His inclusion on the team would be fantastic. Having a spinner in the final game would have been excellent after playing two all-rounders. Additionally, we are attempting to evaluate what we are seeing as best we can,” ten Doeschate stated.

“We know we are going to need three seamers in this game and it is just how you manage that 6,7,8 role, the guys who are going to play that role and whether we can fit Kuldeep in now or save him for later in the series where if the weather stays like this, it should turn somewhere along the line,” he stated.

India is probably going to use two spinners:  Ryan Ten Doeschate

The team would probably use two spinners in the second Test, according to the assistant coach. He did, however, emphasise that the ultimate choice will be based on the pitch’s circumstances on game day.

“The likelihood of playing two spinners is very high. Just which two we play, which relates to the earlier point regarding balancing the batting depth. The bowling of all three spinners is excellent. Sundar’s Washi is batting brilliantly. Therefore, the question is simply which combination we choose: an all-rounder spinner or an out-and-out spinner,” ten Doeschate said.

“Obviously, we must then use the bowling all-rounder. As a result, there are numerous variables. The wicket is quite patchy and green, with 11 or 12 mm of grass. We’re trying to decide between two different offensive strategies because it’s pretty dry below and rain is predicted for Wednesday, but I’m fairly certain that two spinners will play in this Test,” he said.
